Democracy in chains book review7/6/2023 Whatever Buchanan had in his heart, he had to have known who he was dealing with and what they wanted the schools to look like. I haven't seen a single libertarian response to this book explain how the first efforts at school vouchers weren't aimed at trying to keep schools racially segregated. At the same time, MacLean makes a strong case that Buchanan's career got its first boost from political elites in Virginia who were trying to figure out how to deal with Brown v. She also doesn't acknowledge that Buchanan's personal views about race and people of color are not reflected in his archives. I agree that she doesn't really make a strong connection between Buchanan and the present-day Koch operation. MacLean's book is definitely not perfect. …more I think this review is fairly representative of the response MacLean got from a lot of libertarian corners. Michael I think this review is fairly representative of the response MacLean got from a lot of libertarian corners.
